Why Blogging is so Good for SEO

BloggingTons of blogs exist on the Internet today, but do people really just love sharing information that much? Sure, some people do, but the truth is, blogging is a great way to both connect with an audience and drive huge traffic to your website. Blogging allows you to have direct impact over the audience and type of traffic you are sending to your main webpage. Not many people want to simply read a product page but that doesn’t mean people aren’t interested in that product. The fact is, reading an article is much more interesting that reading a spec sheet. Conveniently, webmasters can use that article to drive traffic directly to a product landing page, where readers can then purchase the item if they are so inclined.

There are lots of great reasons why blogging is so good for SEO, but one article can’t possibly contain them all, so we’ll try and hit some hot spots. Blogs provide obvious, easy to grasp content. As in the previous example, even a person who may be interested in a particular service or product may not simply want to read through a company’s website to learn more about it. There is a lot of good, quality content on blogs. Search engines thrive on indexing content. While they are getting better at images and video, search engines still do not rank flash videos, text in image form, and lots of other fancy tactics used on many business websites. By providing great text content, search engines index blogs wonderfully well.

As a blog author, you have great control over the links and keywords used in your blog. It’s well known that the anchor text that links to any particular website is important in determining the content of that page. For example, many people create links that simply say “click here” or “go there now”. Unfortunately, those don’t say anything about what that page will be about, which is bad for search engines. When you are authoring content, you can use quality anchor text like, “new queen mattresses” or “cellphone cases” that help show what the linked page will be about. This is great for search engine’s ranking of your pages.

Probably most importantly, blogging provides a great way for others to link to your content. Not many people are going to share a link to a company’s home page or a certain product page. It’s just not that engaging. But, on the contrary, people are much more likely to share information they think others will also enjoy. An interesting article about the latest printing technique is much more likely to be shared than a printing company’s webpage. But, in the process of sharing the article, all the links within the article are shared as well, thus driving quality traffic to your webpage.

Blogs are an excellent way to drive your target audience to your webpage. Regularly writing content related to your chosen keywords and that relates to your main site will help improve your search engine ranking over time. Content is the main factor in determining search engine rankings and blogs are chock full of content. If you’re not blogging for your business already, it’s high time you started!
